While most topic research is completed during the website phase, prior to beginning the documentary students will need to gather additional information. In addition, since most students are likely to be unfamiliar with the writing and production of a documentary, it will be important for them to research the genre. I recommend asking each student to locate two films of similar length and subject matter and then conduct a genre analysis.
